WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

Reflexology is a non-invasive manual technique that helps to support the body’s natural healing process. Reflexologists use a mini map to recognize and distinguish the reflexology areas on the hands and feet that correspond to every part of the body. By applying pressure to these areas, reflexology aids in the reduction of tension and stress, promotes relaxation, aids in the detoxification process, increases blood flow, and helps to improve endocrine, circulation and immune systems.

According to the National Board, “Reflexology is a protocol of manual techniques… These techniques stimulate the complex neural pathways linking body systems, supporting the body’s efforts to function optimally.” Dr. Manzanares adds from his text Principles of Reflexology that in addition to the reflex areas that we address there is a reflex arch that “involves different structures that include receptors or nerve endings, sensory nerves, spinal cord, reticular formation, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebral cortex, and the vegetative nervous system.”

Massage addresses the external structures and can influence the internal environment. Reflexology addresses internal structures and can affect the external body via the reflexology areas. Research and studies have shown that reflexology may help with migraines, digestive disorders, PMS, hypertension, post-operative pain, sinus congestion, and pain and anxiety associated with cancer and cancer treatments, and much more.
